I have a lot of random Japanese friends, some I’ve met through

here who won’t talk to me for weeks and then will reach out out of nowhere and will be like “hey are you free tomorrow?” Is this common in Japan? If someone doesn’t talk to me for a while, I don’t really consider them a friend and don’t want to hang out with them. If you wanna hang out, catch up with me, check in occasionally, see how I’m doing. Don’t just ask me to hang out now that you have free time and want to practice english, we aren’t friends lmao

I'm pretty sure it's not common in Japan. Maybe they are not your real friends... Some of them maybe want to imrove their English skills or take a pic with u and post it on a instagram. Some of my friends do the same thing😥😥

@Motoki Fujii you hit the nail on the head! After all, we’re all human. If someone doesn’t uphold a mutual respect for someone then I don’t see why they should honor those people with their time. I know this app is for language exchange but that’s built on friendship and if someone doesn’t believe that, they should pay for an English teacher.

I think you’re right. People who come here want to improve their language skills. But I don’t think Its polite to talk to you only when they just need you. Before doing that, we need to know each other and be friend.

@ブルー having a mutual agreement to be language exchange partners is cool but when you consider people a “friend” only wanting to hang out with them to learn English is a little belittling 😭 #im a person too
