Kokum(コクム) is also known as bhirand/bhirind in Konkani(コンカニ語).

It has sweet/sour taste and smell.
kokum juice helps to relieve gastric problems like indigestion and flatulence due to its anti-bacterial properties and has other medicinal uses.

The trees flower from November to February, and the fruit season lasts through March, April and May.

@Azure these fruits are akso called as mangosteen. Mangosteen, also known as the purple mangosteen, is a tropical evergreen tree with edible fruit native to island nations of Southeast Asia. I have taken this information from internet and I hope this will be useful.
