Kokum(コクム) is also known as bhirand/bhirind in Konkani(コンカニ語

).

It has sweet/sour taste and smell.
kokum juice helps to relieve gastric problems like indigestion and flatulence due to its anti-bacterial properties and has other medicinal uses.

The trees flower from November to February, and the fruit season lasts through March, April and May.

    @messy these fruits are akso called as mangosteen. Mangosteen, also known as the purple mangosteen, is a tropical evergreen tree with edible fruit native to island nations of Southeast Asia. I have taken this information from internet and I hope this will be useful.

    @perry there is a fruit called as mangosteen sold in southest east Asia, it looks similar to kokum, the difference i found was in scientific name: Garcinia mangostana
