strong spirit, and showed kindness to the Beast when he earned her respect. Gaston thought he could walk all over her but she refused to give in to his forceful tactics.

I agree with Belle being kind to those who are genuinely good hearted, whose actions garner her respect. She is strong and clever, so forceful, underhanded people will not fool her.
