📲 texts with tea v. 1

Americans often text in grammatically

incorrect shorthand to save time. I’m here to teach you this slang featuring a random conversation with a friend.

GG, Good game - a way to express defeat, not too commonly used (here my friend is referring to the fact that they missed an event)

Hang - meet up, spend time together. see my very old post on “down to hang” for a detailed explanation

Rip, Rest In Peace - it’s over, not happening, can also be used to express defeat

Wyd, what you doing - I say this often, it is shorthand to ask what someone is doing, basically 你在干什么?

Tfti, thanks for the invite - a sarcastic way to tell someone you wish they invited you, but is usually said as a joke

Lame - not cool, not fun, boring

Tbh - to be honest, you can use this to reinforce that you are stating your true opinion

Great post I would also add the context that middle age and older Americans would also have no idea what these things mean. They came about when parents started to give their kids cell phones and text messaging became popular with younger people.
