Wakayama Castle is truly spectacular. A small, but beautiful

castle sat on a lone hill in the centre of a ring of mountains and the island sea :o For history-lovers, they have some amazing exhibits inside, including weapons and original letters and paintings written and made by members of the Tokugawa Shogunate!

@Ai You should go! The city is in the middle of the mountains too, with beautiful beaches a little further south! (I think south...)

@Rina it was originally called Ōta castle, and was home to the Iga Ikki warrior monks. Later they were expelled by Toyotomi Hideyoshi who then had Toyotomi Hidenaga replace Ōta with Wakayama castle with the support of Todo Takatora. Later came under Tokugawa control in 1600 when the Asano family (Yoshinaga) took up residence. Unfortunately the building was destroyed in WWII, but was rebuilt in 1958. (Source: the leaflet in the castle lol)
