The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot.

Part 3 of

7.

And indeed there will be time
To wonder, “Do I dare?” and, “Do I dare?”
Time to turn back and descend the stair,
With a bald spot in the middle of my hair —
(They will say: “How his hair is growing thin!”)
My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,
My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin —
(They will say: “But how his arms and legs are thin!”)
Do I dare
Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.

This poem has so many incredible lines that it is difficult to select the best ones. But surely the following are noteworthy: In a minute there is time For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse. Here Eliot tells us that in one minute we can make a decision, any decision, to change our lives and in that minute we can revise the decision until we are happy. But that all of this thinking can also be reversed in a single minute and we will be left with no change. It shows the power of thinking supported by action and the danger of taking no action.
