This day last year was my first day in Nagasaki.

Mid morning

I was debating whether to see Gunkanjima Island.🏝️ I reserved a ticket but there was a wait. ⌛While I sat and pondered my options the rain became to come pouring down and in that moment I thought lets not worry about it. 😂🌧️

I decided to take a stroll in the rain instead before heading back to the hotel to decide what to do next.

I decided to visit the Hypocenter Cenotaph. So I caught the tram to visit the site of the Atomic bomb had been detonated. It was another moving and emotional experience like in Hiroshima. Perhaps the rain brought an even more sadness to my time there.

Next, I visit the Peace Park and was touched by the sculptures and singing voices of some a school children's choir. Who had prepared a loving tribute arranged by their teachers.

That evening I returned back to the hotel. Dry off after the rain. Then I walked to Chinatown for some of Nagasaki's famous dish Champon.

@Chiara Hi Chiara, I decided not to visit, for the reasons I mentioned in the post with the weather being quite poor but also, the dock/wharf had apparently been damaged due to the typhoon last year. So the boat couldn't actually dock it could only circle the island from out at sea. I thought this experience wouldn't be quite as enjoyable so I cancelled my booking. I also visited 26 Martyrs of Japan museum. Actually, I visited that tomorrow. So I will post it in tomorrow's post. How devastating and tragic but the hope and faith of those Christians are to be admired.

@Sue スー yes, it's there. Nagasaki is an interesting place because it was a place of trade for the Dutch and Chinese who lived there from 1641. A place I visited was Dejima, very close to Chinatown. It is a very interesting area. Of course the largest Chinatown in Japan is in Yokohama near Tokyo. Worth a visit as well. 😊

@Chiara I haven't seen it. Although the script was part of the museum. It was signed by Martin Scorsese the director of Silence. I need to watch it. Thank you for informing me. I am a Christian in Australia I am touched by their loss.

Your visit to Nagasaki as well as Hiroshima touches my heart. When I visited the Hypocenter, I couldn't express in words, feeling lots of sorrow. We never forget their sorrow and want to keep the feeling of gratitude for peaceful days. I ate Champon, too😊👍
