I read somewhere today that saying さようなら when ending a conversation

or leaving somewhere isn’t actually used very much as it expresses a lot of finality and that it is better to use じゃあね as it is much more natural and less final sounding. Is this correct?

    じゃあね is very casual, for friends only.

    You’ve got a point.さようなら is not wrong.more formal. To me さようなら sounds sad. We won’t see again-ish. じゃあね is a casual way to say さようなら. Also, you can say バイバイ.bye 👋

    In formal situation, 「では、しつれいします。」is appropriate.

    Yes, it's true! When people leave their office, people often just say ”おつかれさまでした。おさきにしつれいします” to mean “さようなら”.
