@JW™ Okay, this is going to be a little long. 😅 We are considered the "the oldest colony in the world". Puerto Rican history 101: 😂😂 We belonged to Spain 🇪🇸 from 1493 until 1898 after the Hispanic-american war (Spain vs. USA). 🇺🇸US and Spain came to an agreement were Philippines, Cuba and Puerto Rico passed to be American "territory". Although, 🇨🇺Cuba gained their independency and 🇵🇭Philippines went into war not long after.... Guam and Puerto Rico have belonged to the US since 1898. In Puerto Rico, after a long period of civil wars, we became a colony in 1952. Ever since 1952, we have not had a complete title. It is considered to be "Estado Libre Asociado" which translates to "Associate Free State". It a very, very, VERY complicated history that also influences our language and our culture. 😅
