In English grammar, pronoun is
a word that substitutes for a noun or noun phrase whereas the most simple terms, a pronoun is a word which takes the position of a noun A pronoun is used instead of a noun or noun phrase in a sentence.
It may take place of the name of a person, place or thing
English Pronouns can be divided into several categories:
(1) personal pronouns is used to refer to a person
👉Subject pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, they
👉Object pronouns: me, you, him, her, it, us, you, them
(2) indefinite pronouns is used to talk about something which is not specific
👉another, anybody/ anyone, anything, each, either, enough, everybody/ everyone, everything, less, little, much, neither, nobody/ no-one, nothing, one, other, somebody/ someone, something, both, few, fewer, many, others, several, all, any, more, most, none, some, such.
(3)reflexive pronouns is used in reference to another pronoun.
👉myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves
(4) reciprocal pronouns is used to show an action or feeling which is reciprocated
👉one another , each other
(5)possessive pronouns are used to indicate possession or ownership
👉mine, yours, his, hers, ours, yours, theirs
(6)demonstrative pronouns is used to indicate something
👉this, that, these, those
(7)interrogative pronouns is used in a question
👉who, whom, which, whose, that
(8) intensive pronouns is used as a reference to another pronoun or noun in the same sentence as a way of emphasising it.
👉myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves
(9)relative pronouns used as a way of giving additional information within a sentence
👉who, whom, which, what, whose, whoever, whatever, whichever, whomever.
