🇺🇸Cool English Pronunciation Basics🇬🇧

Do you know voiced and

unvoiced sounds?

🔊Vowels a, e, i, o, u and consonant sounds b, d, g, j, l, m, n, ng, r, th, v, w, y, z need your voice, your vocal chords, to exist. They are called VOICED SOUNDS.

🔇Consonant sounds c, ch, f, h, k, p, q, s, sh, t, th, x don't need your voice. They are called UNVOICED SOUNDS.

👉🏻Place the palm of your hand🤚🏻 on the front of your neck. Say aaaaaaa eeeeeee iiiiiiiii ooooooo...

Notice the vibration you feel on your hand from your throat (vocal chords)? These are voiced sounds. You will feel he same vibration with voiced consonants listed above.🔊

You will NOT feel this vibration with unvoiced consonants.🔇

Some sounds are cousins💕
The only difference between them is voice or no voice:

f🔇 / v🔊
k🔇 / g🔊
p🔇 / b🔊
s🔇 / z 🔊
t🔇 / d 🔊

Examples:
few / view
Kate / gate
pill / bill
Sue / zoo
to / do

It is important to know about voiced and unvoiced sounds to properly pronounce English. 🙂

@다솜 Dasom Really? 🙂How fun it is to see that, on the contrary, I needed to harden my pronunciation when I started with Korean. I think now I've gone too hard, so striking a balance is necessary. I agree, I have the most lovely patient friends and teachers here in the app. I learn so much from them, language and much more.😍

한국어는 대략 모음은 유성음, 자음은 파열음이라고 하는데. 영어에서는 한국어 모음'ㅡ'를 사용해서 발음함에도 모음 발음이 없다고 할 때 좀 난감하더라고요.

@다솜 Dasom I see, good for you! I get you haha 🙂 . Korean is the first language I have struggled so much with but strangely, I just do not want to let go🤣. I just wanted to know basics but now thanks to the great peiple I have met on the app who have Korean as their mother tongue... Although it is a challenge for me and I have a looooong way to go, I know it will be worth it. Let's keep 화이팅!😃🌷

@Mok 정말 흥미롭군요! So if I understand correctly, people use ㅡ in Korean to separate consonants, right (Englsh "star"→스탈)? 이것은 음절의 수를 매우 다르게 만듭니다. Identifying voiced and unvoiced sounds in English helps with other English rules of pronunciation (나는 이 규칙들을 곧 쓸 것입니다 🙂).
