I was sitting on a train once when I noticed this mobile phone on the floor. I looked around but I couldn’t see anyone nearby who could have dropped it. After about ten minutes, I decided to pick it up. It looked quite new and it was still on. Curious to see who might have dropped it, I scrolled through the address book and opened a text message but it was in a language I couldn’t understand. Eventually, I decided to send a message in English to a couple of the names in the phone book. I wrote, “Please tell the owner of this phone to call me” then I added my mobile number. I didn’t hear anything for a while, but just as I was getting off the train, the phone rang. I answered and a woman’s voice in English said, “Hello, I think you've got my phone!” I explained what had happened and she asked me to wait at the station café so she could come and pick up the phone. An hour later she arrived. And that’s how I met my wife, Emily.

What does “still on” mean in this sentence “ it looked quite new and it was still on” ?

@Nhung Koala 늉 코알라 @Nhung Koala 코알라 I think it means that the cellphone hadn’t been locked, that is why the writer was able to message with the phone.

Many years ago I dropped my bag in a taxi car. The bag had all my important things in it: my ID card, some very important certificates, my bank card, my new cellphone, my electronic pad, some money and so on. That was the certificates I was anxious about the most, I would rather give up all the money and other things to get the certificates back. Fortunately a warm-hearted lady found it beside a garbage, she immediately turned it in a police station. Because the cellphone and the pad had already been taken away by someone else, it was very difficult for the policemen to get me, they even found out the apartment I used to stay in, but I had already left. Finally they found a company number in a small piece of paper in my bag, that was the company I worked for. They dialed the number and found me . Although the cellphone and the money had gone, I got the certificates and my ID card back. I felt like my life was saved ! I really appreciated the kind lady and those policemen.
