Yesterday was World Vegan Day, so I wanted to talk a bit about veganism. It's still a young concept in Japan, but I'm worried about the current state of animal-derived viruses (2020 is a good example) and animal welfare. Here are some great books about Japanese vegan food that I would like to share with you. The first three books are in English and the rest are in Japanese. Miyoko Schinner was born in Tokyo and is a highly regarded woman in the vegan world. For further information, I've included some links in the comments.

    Hii, I became a vegan just a while ago〜:) Still not complete a began, but I'm tryng. I should've know about the real cause of greenhouse gas and how much suffering the animals go through🐷 I just didn't try to know. 🐄 Everyone should know it. But for now if I say I'm vegan, the people in Japan see me eccentric or too much.🙃haha

    @akari Hello Akari it’s nice to meet you! It’s great to hear that you went Vegan. I was a vegetarian for 20 years here in the U.K. and even then it took a long time for people to accept me in the early days. When I eventually went vegan 4 years ago it seemed that Veganism was at its peak popularity and now many people in the U.K. are as a result also vegan, it’s no longer considered ‘strange’ 😊 one of my old Japanese friends is also vegan and says it is a struggle for people to accept it. But I think in time when people realise how their eggs and milk and their fish/meat are made and their environmental effect, I think there will be a greater awareness and compassion. I wish you all the best on your journey! 😊✌️🌱

    @Yumi M Ohuihinn 😀👍 「HappyCow」

    @akari I have heard there is still a long way to go in the areas of LGBTIQ+ and equal rights in japan but I hope eventually things will get better. I’m always hopeful for change. I believe as time goes on changes in what we eat will be a necessary. I think the more accessible the options are made available, such as meat substitutes the easier it is to make that change. I absolutely agree with what you say about dogs and cats, they are one and the same 😊 I think it’s fantastic what you are doing 👍

    @RIN りん I have heard becoming flexitarian has become increasingly popular in Japan. How has it been for you so far? Apparently I hear more meat/fish substitutes and vegan cheese will come to Japan in the near future. I think it will really allow people to have lots of new positive options 😀👍

    @Adam Yeah, Japanese politicians don't care about minority🙄 Yes I agree. It took me time to realise it too.. People just need to have opportunitiy to know i guess.. Yeah! There must be many meat substitutes in the uk! I wanted to eat beyond meat but couldn't find it here.😝 I bought dried soy meants instead. 😃 You too. You realised so early.:) I'll won't go back. I'll keep going😉💪

    @akari I saw a slaughterhouse video when i was still a child at primary school ( in the 1980’s they were allowed to show such things.) but it really haunted me back then 😔 and ultimately set me on the path to where I am now. I think you are completely right about what you say. 😊 Education about what people consume is the most important factor. I really like ‘Beyond Meat’ the only major meat substitute I can think of in Asia at the moment is https://omnipork.co which I believe is Hong Kong based. My friend says it is available in select stores, as are some Naturali https://www.naturli-foods.com meat free products (also available here in the U.K.) which are available at some ‘Green Leaf’ health food stores. 👍 I think things are improving but it will take time. I’m so happy to meet people like yourself who are pioneering modern Veganism in Japan. Wonderful. 🌱 😀👍

    @Adam I seeee..it must be really shocking to see for kids. Youwere so considerate then.:) If I watched it when I was a kid like you and if I knew the choice not to eat meats which can help animals, I might have become vegan earlier.. haha I knew we eat animals and I thought it is what it is.. but its not.😢 🐖🐄🐓are such wise and cute aninals😢 Their lives matter too, not just black lives.. all lives matter 😢haha. I have vegetarian and vegan friends overseas but I wasn't interested why they became that. Thank you for the URL! I didn't know that we can get such meat substitutes here.😊 Maybe I can search at vegetarian stores nearby. 😋 I tried dried soy meat today, it was good enough x) haha

    @akari I think as humans it’s easy to just not think of the consequences of our actions or how food ends up on our plate, but in someways even though that video haunted me as a child I think it’s important that everybody understands what happens to the foods they consume. I truly believe if most people had to hunt and slaughter they wouldn’t do it. I feel like I have always tried my best to be a peaceful person and I love animals equally so it made sense for me to go Vegan. ☺️ リンクが役に立ったことをうれしく思います! 😀私にはギリシャ人の友人がいて、いつも本当に良い大豆肉のレシピを作っています。 いつか私はそれを学ばなければなりません!
