Pagi semua! So in my studies in Indonesian today I came across

the words "sang" and "si" which can be used I guess to mean "the" and "that". I feel like I have rarely seen these when talking with people from Indonesia. Can someone explain the uses for these? Is this for both formal and informal. Thanks! 👋

Sang" di tujukan kepada orang-orang terhormat dan pahlawan. Si" sering di gunakan dalam sejarah atau legenda di tujukan kepada benda, hewan.😊

"sang" is used to refer someone or something with regard, to think highly of; and to have or show respect or concern to the subject. for instance: in Indonesian flag ceremony before we raise the flag the person who will hoist the flag or the color guard will shout loudly to the audience "Kepada Sang Saka Merah Putih, Hormat Grak!" it's formal and considered poetic.

Most notable differences between "si" and "sang" are: 1. We commonly use "si" for alive creatures, while we can use "sang" for both dead things and alive creatures. Example: a) The sun - Sang surya ✅ - Si surya ❎ b) The man - Sang pria ✅ - Si pria ✅ 2. We commonly use "si" to make fun of someone, while we use "sang" for someone we highly respect or appreciate. Example: a) The crazy guy - Si orang gila ✅ - Sang orang gila (gramatically this is not wrong but the other one sounds much better) b) The president - Sang presiden ✅ - Si presiden (again, gramatically this is not wrong but the other one sounds much better) I hope this helps and you can ask me if you have any questions.

Simple examples: 1.) You know that girl?? I heard she cried last night. Kamu tahu si perempuan itu?? Aku dengar dia menangis tadi malam. 2.) The saviour is here. Sang penyelamat ada di sini.
