When I’m looking at “Moments” posted by people on HelloTalk I

usually look people I follow or the other randomly selected ones, but earlier I was looking at the “Classmates” section (i.e. other people who are studying the same languages as you), and can’t help but notice a number of of people who had accounts as native speakers of English (US/UK/Aus, etc.) but clearly weren’t given the mistakes they make in grammar and vocabulary...

Can’t help but wonder at the point of this. Are these people just looking to stalk girls?

By the way, the English term for making an online account with a fake persona is “Catfishing”.

Be careful out there people!

I think there are better apps to stalk girls. Though it is interesting why 'natives' make so many mistakes. :-)

Thank you. I ve noticed that. Luckily I only followed few native speakers. I like browsing what they post which is useful for me to learn English.

@Martyna P there are definitely a lot of non-native English speakers pretending to be native however. I’ve seen some others post similar things.

@Anchi0220 actually interestingly it’s mostly used as a verb; “he catfished me” “I got catfished”. You *can* use it as a noun but it’s less common.
