These trees were planted in 1937 by the Japanese Canadian community

in Victoria. Just a few years later, some 300 Japanese Canadian families were taken from Victoria to internment camps in the interior during WW2. After the war, none of the families came back to Victoria. They settled in Alberta or headed east to Ontario. Every Spring, the cherry blossoms bloom in Victoria, so beautiful, so hopeful. And every year, it reminds us of the wrong we did to Japanese Canadians in WW2, and the blossoms remind us to never again make the mistakes of our past.
I can’t stop thinking about this as violence against Asian communities erupts across North America against our East Asian community. Never again, we said...but still it continues and still, the blossoms come and bring us hope for a better future.

If they were 100% innocent people it was even something worse than violence because the violence done by Canadian gov againt their citizens. I'm wondering if it really happened just because they were Japanese. It happened during the war and I think Canadian government did it because Japanese Canadians could do something againt national interest. I don't think it was violence against Asian communities. If it was really "violence" it was just to Japanese.

@Nate I’m talking about two different things. What happened to innocent Japanese families during WW2 and the other violence is what has been happening to asians in North America lately. Just last week a Korean girl was attacked in Vancouver. All were innocent. Also, the internment of Japanese Canadians was wrong. It has long since been proven they were innocent Canadians who happened to have had ancestors from Japan. They were not spies.

If they were not spies and it was proven, def it was terrible violence done to their citizens by the gov. But I still don't feel it was violence to Asian community as an Asian. But thank you for your concerns about Asian communities.
