Idiom of the Day

“Mixing oil with water”

Have you ever had

a coworker that you really don’t get along with? Like you are opposites and clash together? Or perhaps you were in a bad relationship where one of you was hot and the other cold? In situations like these, we will say, “It is like mixing oil with water.” This is a good illustration that states no matter what you do, you will never mix together.

“Ever since childhood, David and his sister have always fought. They are like mixing oil with water.”

@Scott Cecil Allen It’s interesting! In Mandarin Chinese, we say it’s “水火不容”, while in English, it’s “水油不容.”
