    It depends on resources you have now. In my view, there are some discrepancy between two accents. North is very common in book or app materials for some reasons.

    You can learn North accent if you want because when you speak this accent, everyone all can get what you are saying. But if the opposite, not sure. I'm live in North of Vietnam and i have a uncle speaking South accent. Sometimes i dont get what she is saying because it's pretty difficult to hear if you are new to contect South accent
