I want to share a bit of wisdom that I've learned both from experience

and from listening to numerous accounts from other language learners, polyglots, and professional language teachers/mentors.

NOBODY CAN TEACH YOU TO SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE. They can only give you the tools to teach yourself!

This is why we can spend YEARS taking a language class in school and never become fluent, or even conversational. In order to learn your target language, YOU have to put in the time and effort. It will take countless hours of listening, reading, writing, and SPEAKING before you become comfortable in it. The only way you will learn faster is by doing it more often.

So, my friends, don't be disappointed when you ask someone here to "teach you a language" and you don't get the results you expect. The best we can do for you is to share some resources with you and give you a chance to practice what you have spent your valuable time learning how to do.

Stay motivated, be consistent, and don't give up! The more you practice, the easier it gets!

Woow so inspirational👏👏In my book, one thing which is more important than linguistic factors is the non_linguistic factors i mean that 80% of learning any language is related to psychology like our emmotion, motivation and physiology. The ones in pick emmotional state learn faster and better than the ones with low motivation even if the low motivational ones have great teachers, great books and use great methods.

@Narito That's fantastic! I'm not saying that other people can't help us improve, because they absolutely can! What I'm saying is that we can't just expect someone to "teach us a language" without putting in a significant amount of effort ourselves. Your girlfriend helped you and corrected your mistakes, but YOU spent time practicing and speaking, and you didn't just expect her to tell you something and get instant results without doing anything with the information she gave you. YOU took an ACTIVE role in improving your skills! My point is, INPUT is not enough. OUTPUT is vital to anyone who wants to do more than just understand a language. We'll never speak it well if we don't ever speak it at all!

@anynomous I completely agree! We all have to find out how learning our target language can be fun for us. Some people read their favorite books in their target language, some people translate songs they like (even though they barely know any of the words), some people learn to sing the songs, watch their favorite TV series... you just have to find what works for YOU, because it's not the same for everyone
