It’s been getting noticeably colder in England this week.

Did you know that when birds fly in a “<” formation, they’re likely to be a close family? It’s because it takes significant effort to fly in the point position, so they must be able to trust each other to take turns.

For unrelated birds, they’re more likely to fly in a “(” formation, which is less efficient, but shares the effort more equally, and so requires less trust.

I expect that birds flying in a “<“ formation can therefore travel further 🤔
