Tell me if you would pay money to have an English as a Foreign

Language couch that teaches via web cam?
As I am thinking of how I will be able to work now with the coronavirus and social distancing happening. As since I have my Linguistics degree in would like to put it to use. My idea was to go to a foreign country to teach but I don't see it happening at this time.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

    @Killian ok explain
  • Killian

@Simply Kathy no. Not nature vs nurture. Not even close.
  • Simply Kathy Lifetime VIP

@Killian Oh, nature vs nurture... actually I believe humans are a little of both. As each person has a slightly different personality and view of life. So what we learn through experience as well as what we are taught makes us who we are now.
  • Killian

@Simply Kathy So... listen. Set aside the ego. First Principles. Tabula rasa. Think: How does Nature function vs how modern society functions?
  • Simply Kathy Lifetime VIP

@Killian Because American's have pride issues.
  • Killian

@Simply Kathy Why is it 99% of the fools online are American? Learn or don't.

@Killian Experience is always a good teacher of everything. Why do you think that "with age comes wisdom"? On second thought never mind as I have seen people I think would have understood things but just ever got a clue to what they were doing. (My sarcastic side is out this morning, need some coffee)
  • Killian

My thoughts: Experience is a better teacher than a degree. Work for a year or two before deciding what is what with linguistics and language pedagogy.

From what I've heard, there are tons of English classes online available due to COVID19 these days. I'd like to suggest that you should have your own specialty on your class, and aim the specific target not in general.
  • Simply Kathy Lifetime VIP

    @jun oh my! That's a lot.
  • jun

I pay $90 a month for English lessons and it doesn't help much.
  • Mili

I think its a great idea
  • David chang

    How about make U-tube. ?
  • Simply Kathy Lifetime VIP

@yo At this time the restrictions are too big for me to leave the US and teach. So, instead I need to think of alternatives for now.
  • Simply Kathy Lifetime VIP

As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. So the first thing I will need to do is research this more so can find a medium ranged price. As well as appealing to the target group in lessons.
  • Simply Kathy Lifetime VIP

Ok, so my competition would be from people living in the Philippines. Thanks for this tip, as I would not have known that.
  • Simply Kathy Lifetime VIP

@ No, will not compete on price but will have a planned curriculum and a target age and learner group at first.
  • Lifetime VIP

I say go for it! Given the (lack of) alternative, it's still a good way to use your skills. And don't compete on price - they're cheap for a reason.
  • Jin

Imo people would take the class according to the contents and a target learner of the class Philippine classes are cheap but some people prefer to learn American accent, which Philippine classes cannot satisfy
  • yo

I prefer to learn it in a centre or school But I think it's good idea we have to try new things in life because Why not?
  • Chie Lifetime VIP

There are a lot of cheap online classes that we can take. Many philippinas do as around 2dollars per an hour.(and one on one) So it is hard for Americans making money considered from the rivals😅
