***TIPS on USING HELLO TALK***

I have been on Hello Talk for

almost five years now and here are my tips on starting conversions and making more friends:

1. Do no just say "Hi". Try to make an effort to introduce yourself or look at people's profiles and say/ask something about their city, hobbies etc. I honestly never had an interesting conversation that just started with “Hi”. That hand emoji that says hello is even worse because it’s even lazier.

2. Have an introduction in your profile! I think this is really important. If I see a profile with no information, I usually don’t respond because that person did not take the time to present himself/herself even a little bit.

3. Do not post something like “Does anybody want to practice?”. We are all here to practice and I’m sure you would receive more messages if you post something more interesting, personal or useful for other learners.

4. Do not ask "Can you teach me English?". Nobody can teach you a language here so don’t have unrealistic expectations. This is a place to practice what you have learned and ask questions.

I would add: don't lie on your nationality/location 😅 it's so frustrated when you think that you are speaking to a native and then you noticed that the person speak less the language than you and have a worse pronunciation... And also: it's not a dating app, we are here to learn languages!

I have been noticing how is increasing people who are using hellotalk only as a social media and not to practice a language. That's so annoying.
