Today, I went shopping at a Korean store. Whenever I go to this

store, I always talk to the owner in English. Today, as I was driving there, I was gathering up the courage to finally greet him in Korean — to say hello and ask him how he was doing. But when I got there, I totally “chickened out”. I couldn’t do it.

So for those of you who study really hard, but you still don’t have the confidence to speak, I feel you. But let’s keep working hard. We will find the confidence soon. ☺️

Use the very common idiom — CHICKEN OUT!

✔️to “chicken out” means to decide not to do something because you’re too frightened/too scared. “Chicken out” is used as a verb and the person who “chickens out” can be called a “chicken” (noun). This is commonly used and informal between friends, family members, etc.

✔️You might hear people say things like...
•I totally chickened out. I was so nervous. I couldn’t give my speech in front three hundred people.
•Stop being a chicken! Even the little kids are zip lining! You can do it!
•Are you sure you can jump from the plane? Do you think you will chicken out?

@Oksana Yes, native speakers do use a lot of idioms. Sometimes they are such a natural part of our speech, we forget they are idioms. If you’re interested, I have shared many idioms on my moments. :)

Currently, I am getting my bachelors degree on Linguistics and my teacher forces us to learn by heart plenty of idioms. Do native speakers often use idioms in their everyday conversations or not? 😁
