There is an expression in English:

“The grass is always greener

on the other side.”

It refers to the way we tend to look at other people’s lives and other things that we don't have in general through rose colored glasses.

I thought of this because recently I was speaking to a young married woman and she told me, “every single person wants to be married and every married person wants to be single”. This phrase immediately popped into my head.
