As promised, this post will talk about the differences between

“really” and “very”.

“Really” can be used to modify adjectives, adverbs, and verbs.

“Very” can modify adjectives and adverbs, but IT CANNOT modify verbs.

Examples with “really”:
- She thought the lesson was really interesting.
(Interesting is an adjective.)
- That car is driving really slowly.
(Slowly is an adverb.)
- I really enjoy riding my bicycle.
(In this example, “really” modifies the verb “enjoy”.)

Examples with “very”:
- The movie we saw was very boring.
(Boring is an adjective.)
- My friend finished the project very quickly.
(Quickly is an adverb.)

Since you CANNOT use “very” to modify verbs, these following examples do not make sense and are NOT correct:
- I very love going shopping.
You should say: I really love going shopping.

- I very need to sleep.
You should say: I really need to sleep.
