had yum cha for lunch today. The waiter didn’t seem like he spoke much English, so I ordered in Mandarin. But I had to check some words in the dictionary first before ordering!

@祈福 The word “check” sounds like “take”, and “ordering” can be clearer, but otherwise not bad. Similar to what ZHANG says in his comment above, I think you and I do the same thing 😄

@wdnmd 大意是没问题，都能听懂。但是严格来讲，我们今天中午吃点心是跟别人的一种约定或者安排。但是很显然，这里的语境是正在吃或者吃了之后写的。所以，说中午吃了点心/吃的是点心更加准确

I feel the "wave" of your pronunciation which is really westen-style. Chinese words do not has to be said in a "wave", like verb in En should be spoken "heavy,loudly". e.g,the wave: how are you ? \ V \ 你好吗？ - - - thus,to focus on those wrong "wave", Chinese sentences are sound more plainly than En's.
