“How often” and “How Many Times”

When someone ask “how often

” the expected answer is a time frame.

For example: How often do you go to the mall?
- About 3 times a month.

Example 2: How often do you brush your teeth?
- Twice a day.

When someone ask “how many times” the expected answer is just a number. The question is asking the number of times of something.

For example: How many times did you watch that movie.

- 3 times.

Example 2: How many times did you buy that same shirt?

- Just twice.
