Many people message me asking

about the difference between the U.K., Britain, and England/Wales/Scotland/Northern Ireland/Ireland.
This image should help!

An important point: the south of Ireland (the Republic of Ireland) is not part of the U.K.

The British Isles/Great Britain is the main landmass including Wales, England, and Scotland.

The U.K. includes those three countries along with Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

It may not seem important, but it is 😆 If you go to Scotland, Wales, or Ireland and call it “England”, people won’t want to be friends with you - they may even be very upset with you!

@Gabriela M Haha it’s easier to say too. In my current job the school wants the kids to learn “England” and “The United States”. Just the U.K. and the USA is so much easier 😆

@Gabriela M That’s fine too. The most important thing is that you don’t call it all “England” 😂 “The U.K.” is the safer option 😛

Can I just say UK (purple line) and Ireland (green line). When I went to London I always said I went to the UK and when I went to Edimburgh I said I went to UK. Is this correct?
