Are you WELL or GOOD?

Well, first..... "Well" can be an adjective

when talking about something's health or that something is satisfactory.

HI, Are you well.
Yep, all is well with me.

OTHER than that, well is always An. ADVERB modifying verbs.

You speak English well.
Are you doing well?
It bids well that you should consider the offer.
I can feel (my toucb) quite well through these gloves.

____________________________________

GOOD is always an adjective.

HI. Are you good today.
Yes, I feel good today. (my state of being is good).
My English is not good. Please help.
It's good that you can see the horizon.

Be aware you would NEVER say:

My English is not WELL.

(That would mean your English is feeling sick 😂)

Thanks for this post as it is very helpful for many people, I'm sure. Well, yet in the US, *good* is used in a scenario where in GB *well* is customary. To this day, it is still bothersome when I encounter the following: A: Hi, how are you? B: I'm good, thanks. I understand that the whole thought may be that "My state of being is good." But to my stubborn mind it appears as if it means that I am good, not bad, which doesn't have much to with my well-being. Instead I definitely prefer I am well/I am unwell. Although, on the other hand there is a strong difference in meaning in the following phrases: I feel well./I feel unwell. I feel good./I feel bad. I am good./Get the FO of here! (?) 😃 I am good, baby. I am bad, real bad, baby... 😮 Should I place an age limit to my.post? 😮

I'm not so sure if it's a typo. But I'd have to say that I feel a little bit confused with 'toucb'.

@Emy You want it (cooked/prepared) medium well? Still an adverb. It's not an animate object.

@Gábor The distinction we would make is WELL is about your health, and GOOD is more about where you are in that moment. It's an American ideal, likely. I can answer, "I am well", that I have no pain. Or I can answer, "Damned the pain, I have no complaints, regardless. I'm good." Ergo, a satisfactory condition.
