A bit of a cultural lesson, rather than a language one

today

was the Super Bowl!
The Super Bowl is where the "best two teams" in the NFL, the National Football League face off to see who is the champion, and who gets the Lombardi Trophy. Basically, it's the championship for American Football.

Today the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from Florida) won, giving Tom Brady his 7th Super Bowl win, which is the most out of any NFL player EVER... And this was the first time it wasn't on his former team, the New England Patriots (from Boston, Massachusetts) who he spent all of his career with until this point.

Super Bowl Sunday is kind of like an unofficial American holiday. Almost everybody watches it, grocery stores will have sales on popular Super Bowl party foods like buffalo wings, chips, and soda, and lot's of exciting commercials come on during the Super Bowl for upcoming movies and TV shows.

American Football is by far the most popular sport in America, and the Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year.

@Tomotaka While obviously not EVERYONE watches it, a lot of people do, including people who don't normally watch NFL games or sports because of the "high quality" commercials and half-time show, which usually has a big name performing like Beyoncé, Shakira, or this time The Weeknd. It's a very big deal, not only because of the game itself, but the marketing that companies use it for.

@ I always have a soft spot for underdogs... So I'm happy the Buccaneers won, because the Chiefs are so good, and just steamroll everyone else normally.

@hoseob yoon Including the super bowl, sports like the NBA and NFL in particular are great insights into American culture and the state of our social matters. For example, Colin Kaepernick is a very influential social justice figure originating from the NFL, and the NBA last season had a lot of social messages for current day issues like Black Lives Matter. Not to mention the insight into American entertainment you get. In short, sports are a great way to get an insight into American culture!
