hellooooooooo!! 🌅

its - it's
what's the difference??

its

- "its" means that something belongs to someone. it indicates possession.

example,
The dog loves its food. (the food is the dog's food. the food belongs to the dog)

it's - "it's" is a contraction. A contraction makes two words become one word. "it's" either means "it is" or "it has".

examples,
It's a beautiful day! (It = the day and the weather. it is a beautiful day, or today is a beautiful day)

It's always been like this. (it has always been like this.)

An example with both!
That is a plant. It's a beautiful plant, and I love its blue pot. (the it = the plant, so it's a beautiful plant = it is. its blue pot =the blue pot belongs to the plant.

I hope this helps!

Hi there. So why is there inconsistency in using an apostrophe? For example, "Rummy's cat is cute." If here apostrophe is used for "belong to" then the same logic should be applied everywhere. Isn't it?

@विक्रम "it's" is a contraction meaning "it is". "Its" marks possession. Usually, " 's " marks possession, but "its" also marks possession. "Its" is an exception to the rule, or it is irregular.
