Meaning: To ruin/mess up sth

Example (1): “I intended to stay with my friend in Cadiz, Spain for three weeks in September and practice my Spanish but the new quarantine rules have (temporarily) scuppered my plans.”

Example (2): “I was so stoked for my hot date tonight but the rain has totally scuppered my plans. Now I look so cute and gorgeous for nothing. Oh my gosh, it sucks so bad”

    I think it's important that you clarify where some of these words and phrases are used. I've lived in the US for ten years and I'd never heard this word before now and when I looked it up in the dictionary sure enough it described it as British English...
