Many people on this app question why people in the West are panic

buying toilet roll so I will try to explain this issue for you.

Firstly, most of us in the West are well aware that toilet roll is not a necessary item to stock up on at this time, however it is a minority few who purchase multiple packs that are causing the shortage.

Secondly, psychology experts stated that in times of general panic, human beings innately become drawn to products that are both long life and large in size as things that are bigger must be more important in times of a crisis. Therefore it is a subconscious urge within people telling them to buy toilet roll even if it is not important at all.

Honestly though it is ridiculous the levels to which people are panic buying nowadays. People need to stop being selfish and think about others. Many people can’t get access to basic necessities due to your greed and you should be ashamed of your self-centred actions

@FIONA If you check one of my recent posts I addressed this issue! It’s not due to ignorance, it’s a combination of two factors; 1: we are sold out of masks and have been for over a month now 2: due to the shortage only those who are sick wear them as the mask traps their coughs and sneezes inside of the mask limiting the spread of germs

https://www.econotimes.com/Theres-plenty-of-toilet-paper-in-the-US--so-why-are-people-hoarding-it-1576910 I think it is a kind of psychological reason

The underlying question is why they are panic buying toilet paper but not face masks or food supplies which is clearly the right choice when you are expecting to face a contagious disease?

@Yu No one here laughs at people wearing masks. People just assume we aren’t wearing masks in some sort of protest against others. But no simply there are not enough masks to go around so most people have 0 masks at home. Even if they wanted to wear a mask they can’t. If masks were readily available here in the UK then I can promise you that most people would wear them. Actually none of my Korean friends here in Brighton even have masks because the supply is so low so it’s not just Western people not wearing them, most people from Asia who reside here can’t wear them either. Regarding racism, that did definitely become an issue at the start of the outbreak because some people are unfortunately simple-minded. But now that Europe is the new epicentre of the outbreak, racism towards people from Asia has started to go back down.

@王蓉Rena If you check my pinned posts on my profile you will see that I have already addressed the face mask issue! Also people are mass purchasing food supplies so much so that there are now shortages in stores

I think the good way to ban this behavior is that government need to take over these commodities and coordinate with supermarkets, each family can only get the amount they usually should use.

@Yu like we, korean make fun of Chinese when it starts. I remember hatred about chinese was rampant in korea. It's not only about mean European something like that. I agree that it's also associated with racism towards asian, but we have to look back on ourselves. Even we do have racism. Only thing we can do is to say stop to people who are discriminating/ignoring others.

@떡볶이Dan yeah I totally get it I mean if they can't get masks at least they shouldn't make fun or something Koreans insult Chineses Europeans insult Asians Xenophobia are a reality in our society Sad truth

@Yu Totally agree with you. Mocking people wearing a mask to play an essential role in preventing CV spread is nonsense indeed. They discriminate them because they assume people who wear masks would be severely ill, which could be wrong in another cultural background.

One of my theories is this is because toilet roll package is large. Shelves get empty easier when some were sold. It’s easy to make people feel stock shortage.
