@hiro we don't have a moon festival, but here it's called the harvest moon. Farmers needed it for harvesting their crops. But the "harvest moon" would be the moon festival in Japan. Most people don't really know about the harvest moon or they just don't care. Some people do go and watch the moonrise.

In this season, Japanese people eat “月見だんご” (dumplings). And also, hamburger shops like McDonald’s sell “月見バーガー” every year. It is contains a fried egg between buns. Because egg yolk is similar to the moon, it is called “月見　バーガー”.
