Idiom of the Day

“Fish out of water”

Have you ever been in

an environment where you felt like you didn’t fit in or belong there? In that circumstance, you would have been “a fish out of water.” Maybe you went to a bar with your friends but you don’t drink alcohol. Maybe you flew to a foreign country to do business but you don’t like to travel. Maybe you went to a child’s birthday party and you were surrounded by children, but you don’t want kids. Or maybe you attended a wedding and you have no plans on getting married. In each of these situations, you would feel like “a fish out of water.”

I feel like a fish out of water because I couldn't get used to this city. Feel like a fish out of water=sudan çıkmış balığa dönmek.😅

@Melike67093 I know people like that. Some of my friends live in “the country,” or in rural areas with low populations. They do not like the city at all.

@............... I am not sure... I think you need a deeper explanation for the sake of context. Otherwise it is confusing. American English especially needs words for context. A lot of information can be inferred by word choice, tone of voice, etc. and offer more context to the situation.

@Scott Cecil Allen I just wanted to say I’m not belonging to this app , that’s why I used this idiom instead of saying it as it is
