I’ve always wondered why some Hellotalk posts get tons of likes

and comments and other good posts get lost or ignored. Last month I made two almost identical videos in Kawagoe. Video #1 got 5 times more views than video #2 despite being very similar and filmed on the same day. I like social experiments, so I switched the picture on video #2. It’s already making a big difference. I guess small changes make big differences on Hellotalk and other platforms. If you are having trouble finding a language partner Hello talk, try changing your strategy just a little.

@杏 Taj It’s really strange. Sometimes I see posts and videos that go viral and wonder why. And some other really good content gets ignored. Small changes make a big difference on social media.

@nao It’s true! That’s what has lead to the problem on the internet called “clickbait”. Even news channels use this tactic online.

@𐊤𐑾Ꭵ𐑤𐊋 Ha ha, that’s not the trick either. If that were the trick, I would have had a lot more success early on. The trick with Hellotalk is 1) search for people in your area and send hundreds of direct messages out 2) be active on here and like/leave comments on other people’s posts.

There are lots of variables involved. You should also consider time of day and the day of the week. Gotta post during people’s downtime.

@anming I can discuss social media algorithms and YouTube all day - that’s what I do for a living, but HelloTalk, I think it’s biased towards paying members and inbox engagement

@anming cool. What’s the pay off in the end? YouTube views? 🤔

The timing of a given post could also make a difference, I believe.

@MC That’s true for the initial premier and the performance in the first 24 hours. But what is a mystery sometimes is the video’s performance many weeks after the release. If it can still get 5k-10k views per day for many weeks, that makes the total number of views grow very fast. That may have more to do with tittles and thumbnails.

@𐊤𐑾Ꭵ𐑤𐊋 That depends on who is watching. It’s not about getting the most people to view the video, it’s about getting the right people to view the video. And most youtubers don’t make much money from ads, it’s more about affiliate programs and sponsorships.

@Majid Yes, timing is important for the first release, but after that the views really add up if the video can keep getting consistent views for many months. That’s what a I haven’t figured out yet.

@ If that were enough to win the game, a lot more people would blow up on social media.

@Lauren P Few weeks ago, I advertised my website in the moment section (I realized I was wrong afterward since this is a language app) and the Hello Team notified me that I would not be able to post anything for 3 days. After those 3 days, I noticed that none of my moments gets any like, as if if they are invisible to everyone else, or not displayed to the public unless they click on my page.

@Aswan HelloTalk opens their api for fb Ads. That’s a better integration for placement. But that’s terrible that they restricted your posts. Almost punishing your for withdrawing your investment

@Lauren P Yes indeed, I addressed the situation with them. Wrote them, respectfully of course, requesting to please point me to where HelloTalk policies clearly address such situation so that I get a better understanding and avoid repeating the same mistakes. To my surprise they could not answer that, after asking the same question, they resorted to fix my account completely. Yet, they DID NOT show me where their policies address such situations.
