Introducing yourself

Don’t get stuck at hello! Sometimes I

get messages that looks like this :

Them: Hi 👋🏽

Them: …….
Me: ………

Or sometimes I get messages like this :

Them: Hi, I’m Alex, I’m a boy and I come from ______. I learn English for ___ years. I hope you can teach me English.

A more formal Introduction between two strangers should look similar to this:

Them: hi. My name is _____. You can call me (nickname if you have one ) . I am from (location). I’m currently a student at ______ OR I’m currently working as a (job position). I am currently learning (language ) because I want to (reasontndid your chrrr t lok

@MING you will be surprise at some of the introductions. For example, it’s impolite to ask someone in a introduction how much money you make or if your married. I’m not saying it’s not ok to ask these questions once the conversation gets going but the initial introduction should be simple and not personal

Why should the job position or the name/nickname matter? Both not of interest for me.

@Anton then you don’t have to add it. But I learned that on this APP people tend to say what they do .

@Lucky 王乐乐 Yes it just shows how different people think in what a good introduction is. For me talking about name and job is rather boring, for you it is a great beginning.

@Anton but I think saying hi and stating their name for me is important. It’s small talk but it leads into bigger talks. So for you, would you be ok with me just jumping into asking personal questions about your family or marital status etc

Well just because somebody is not talking about name or job doesn't mean the person is jumping into questions about martial status, right? :) For me also the photos you posted with examples of introduction are all boring because they are generic and have nothing to do with the conversation. And I also don't care whether the name is Lucky, Obama, Trump, Fake or not because it has no relevance for me. But I don't critizise your way of doing it, just pointing out that these general advices how to start a conversation don't work for everybody.

@Lucky 王乐乐 like the way we interact now in your post is how I would also do it in conversations, I don't know your work, I don't care about your nickname or why you want to learn something, I don't need to know whether you prefer oranges or apples but I can still have a interesting discussion without any introduction.
