ネイティブスピーカーが時間や距離や物の量について話す時に普段は「one」の代わりに「a/an

」を用います。

(例)

A: How long did it take to do your homework?

B: It took about one hour. ❌
B: It took about an hour*. ⭕️

*hourの「h」が発音されないので「an」となります。

お肉屋さんにて
A: What can I get for you?

B: I’ll take two pork chops and one pound of ground chicken. ❌
B: I’ll take two pork chops and a pound of ground chicken. ⭕️

方向を聞く時
A: Excuse me. How far is the bus station from here?

B: If you walk that way for about one mile, you’ll see it on the right. ❌
B: If you walk that way for about a mile, you’ll see it on the right. ⭕️
