It’s about time I introduced you to one of my greatest loves: swimming! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️ Alongside writing and painting I also spend a lot of time in the water, and in just a few days I'm heading to Cattolica, Italy, to join swimmers from 51 countries in the Oceanman race! To say I’m excited is truly an understatement! I had my eyes set on the 5 kilometers distance as you can see from all that training I’ve been doing: 85km over the course of half a year, and close to 20 kms in the past month alone! 🥵 I have decided to go for the 2km race instead. I’ve been a ‘competitive’ long distance swimmer for several years but it’s the first time I’ll be racing in Italy! I put competitive in quotations because I am only ever racing against myself, it’s less about competition and more about fun and adventure! I’ve been a bit mia as I’ve been training hard, and now it’s time to put il mio italiano to the test! Hopefully not with an Italian Carcharodon carcharias🦈 😅 Non vedo l’ora!! I’ve been combing through my plants, artworks, projects (in the dozens), my half-chewed ideas left to rot in my drafts. Spring is usually quite the right time for some much-needed introspection, and I’ve been mulling over the mini life choices I constantly make. It always begins in my art studio, my happy place. I started the process of decluttering a while ago and because it was a deep cleaning of sorts, I invariably got stuck. Cuz who wants to clean and organize when they can chit chat their life away on here instead? 😆 Today, I’m taking a serious step back into my zone and getting this thing done. 🍀 I’ll be welcoming Spring with an organized space, a clear mind, a happy heart, and a calm soul. It feels forbidden to walk in. Scattered in a dim corner, books open indiscriminately with their tattered pages left unread. Tubes of paint with lids tightly shut lie under a thick blanket of neglect. Journals, pens, papers, pencils, brushes, homeless, waiting in line, for someone’s mercy. There is a heavy feeling of time, of time that has been paused and forgotten. I am an artist whose muse has been silenced. I express in other ways, but my colors and canvas are waiting for me, patiently, under a layer of longing and stardust. It’s thrown around on the daily in the art world. Over the years I’ve moved away from calling it that and began understanding it as the becoming stage. Our art, very much like ourselves, is perpetually in the process of becoming. And it’s a testament to the value of walking on the path. Every point of our journey is of incredible value, it may be perceived as less than, but we know that is not true, for beauty abounds in the beginning, in the becoming, and in the fruition. I don’t shy away from sharing my becomings, the stage much like transit, the messy middle, the perpetual now.
