I have never heard of this term until I moved to China! I grew up using a Canon “Point and Shoot” digital camera. While they look the same, CCD actually refers to the sensor, whereas a more common sensor heard nowadays is the CMOS. I took my friend around Shanghai, and his girlfriend brought her CCD camera.
