I went to their concert in Tokyo last week. I've now seen Alcest in 3 different continents! Their music is ethereal, melancholy, and dynamic. There is an emotional duality between aggression and beauty, darkness and light in their songwriting. The lyrics are often inspired by visions of an otherworldly place, and a desire to return to it. Many people agree that Alcest created a new music genre of their own called "Blackgaze", a combination of "black metal" and "shoegaze". At the end of the concert, they finished with a song titled "L'Adieu". The song's lyrics are from a poem by French poet Guillaume Apollinaire. During the song, each band member slowly stopped playing and walked off the stage, leaving the frontman Neige alone to play the final notes. It was perfect. I used a dictionary to help me write this because Alcest is one of my favorite bands and is very important to me. I started learning bachata this year. It’s more fun than I expected. Bachata is similar to salsa, although it’s slower and requires more body control. It’s a social dance, wherein men are usually leaders and women are followers (but not always). For beginners, it’s harder to be a leader than a follower. I am learning Japanese simultaneously while learning bachata. Through the dance, you can get to know other people in a unique way. Recently, I started an intermediate class. It is better to go at sunset to see the silhouettes of Mt. Fuji and the mountains beyond the shining buildings. The Ebisu Sky Lounge is less crowded than the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observation Deck. Have you been to any recommended free observation decks in the Tokyo area? It is one of the most interesting festivals in Tokyo. You could go inside airplanes and talk to the pilots. There was music as well as unusual food and items. Sometimes the planes flew past quickly and everyone was excited by the sound! There were many different colors and varieties of roses. I especially enjoyed smelling them. I wanted to stay longer but it started raining.
