🌊 The Pacific Coast Scenic Route — My Dream Road Trip

One trip I’ve always wanted to take is driving the Pacific Coast Scenic Route, from San Francisco all the way up through Oregon and into Washington. It’s one of those road trips every traveler, camper, and RV owner dreams of. Hugging the coastline the whole way with endless views of the Pacific Ocean.

Along the way you’d pass through Big Sur, where cliffs dive straight into the sea, then wind through groves of giant redwoods that tower higher than buildings. Oregon’s coast is full of rugged beauty. Sea stacks rising from the ocean, tide pools, and hidden beaches that look untouched. And by the time you’d reach Washington, the road gets cooler and greener, with misty beaches and the Olympic Mountains in the distance.

What excites me most about this route is the idea of camping by the ocean, stopping in small seaside towns, or just rolling the windows down and letting the salty air in. It feels like freedom, adventure, and nature all in one drive.

📸 These photos aren’t mine. This trip is still on my bucket list. But one day I’d love to make it a reality and experience the raw beauty of the Pacific coast from start to finish.

🌴 Long Beach & Los Angeles — Two California Vibes

My hometown is Long Beach, a coastal city in LA County that has always felt more relaxed than its famous neighbor. Long Beach has a calmer rhythm. You can wander the Naples canals, walk the pier, eat food from all over the world, or just hang out by the water with the Queen Mary ship in the background. It’s diverse, creative, and has a coastal charm that makes it feel like its own world.

Then there’s Los Angeles, just up the freeway. LA has moments of being laid-back. Like sunsets at Santa Monica Pier or hiking up to Griffith Observatory. But it’s layered with nonstop energy. Hollywood, freeways, concerts, Venice Beach performers… there’s always something happening, and it feels like the city never really sleeps.

For me, Long Beach and LA show two sides of California. Long Beach is coastal chill. Los Angeles is chill too, but in a way that’s wrapped in chaos, energy, and endless things to do. Together, they make Southern California feel alive.

🌵 Arizona — Wild Beauty and Hidden History

One of the best things about living in Las Vegas is that Arizona is just a road trip away, and every time I’ve gone, it’s been unforgettable. About four and a half to five hours from Vegas you reach the Grand Canyon and Kaibab National Forest. It’s wild how the desert slowly turns into thick pine forests, and then suddenly the canyon opens up in front of you. No picture prepares you for how massive it feels when you’re standing at the edge.

Around the same distance in another direction is Sedona, where the red rock cliffs glow in the sun and the whole town has this spiritual, creative vibe. A little closer, about three and a half hours from Vegas, is Bearizona in Williams. A drive-through wildlife park where you see bears, bison, and wolves roaming free like an American safari.

Then there’s Lake Havasu City, just about two and a half to three hours away. What surprises a lot of people is that the real London Bridge. Yes, the one from England. Was taken apart stone by stone and rebuilt right here in the desert. It’s such a quirky piece of history in the middle of Arizona.

One of the most magical spots is Havasupai Falls. It’s about a four-hour drive to the trailhead and then a long hike, but when you finally reach it, you find turquoise waterfalls spilling into pools surrounded by red canyon walls. It looks unreal, like a hidden paradise.

And further east, about six and a half to seven hours from Vegas, is Betatakin in Navajo National Monument. High up in the cliffs are ancient dwellings built around 1300 CE, still preserved after centuries. Standing there, you feel the weight of history and the lives of the people who came long before us.

Arizona isn’t just cactus and desert heat. Its forests, waterfalls, red stone cathedrals, wildlife safaris, quirky history, and ancient homes carved into the cliffs. All within a day’s drive from Las Vegas.

🌌 Great Basin National Park — Nevada’s Hidden Gem

About 4.5 hours from Las Vegas, tucked along the Nevada–Utah border, there’s a place most tourists never hear about: Great Basin National Park.

What makes it special? The silence, the stars, and the sense of being in a forgotten corner of the world. This park has some of the darkest skies in the U.S., which means on a clear night you can see the Milky Way stretched out above you like a river of light. Standing there, you feel impossibly small and yet completely connected to the universe.

It’s also home to ancient bristlecone pine trees, some over 4,000 years old. Living symbols of endurance. There’s even Nevada’s only glacier hidden high on Wheeler Peak, which rises over 13,000 feet.

Great Basin isn’t flashy like the Strip, and it’s not as famous as Zion or the Grand Canyon. But that’s exactly why it’s unforgettable. Out here, there’s no neon, no noise. Just starlight, old mountains, and the quiet kind of beauty that stays with you long after you leave.

## 5. 8/17/2025

🌄 Zion National Park

One of the best parts about living in Las Vegas is how quickly you can reach some of the most stunning landscapes in America. Just about 2.5 hours northeast of Vegas, you’ll find yourself in Zion National Park, Utah. Honestly, it feels like stepping into another world.

The cliffs here are massive, glowing red and orange in the sunlight. Walking through the canyons, you feel like nature built its own skyscrapers. Some of the hikes are legendary. Like The Narrows, where you literally walk through a river between towering canyon walls, or Angel’s Landing, a trail that makes your heart race as much as the views do.

What I love most is the sense of scale. In Vegas, the Strip is bright and alive, but in Zion, the landscape itself glows. The silence, the wind echoing in the canyon, the stars at night. It’s overwhelming in the best way.

For me, it’s crazy that in less than half a day’s drive, I can leave behind neon lights and end up surrounded by cliffs that look like they were pulled from another planet. That’s the kind of contrast that makes America feel so vast and unpredictable.

🌆 Las Vegas: More Than Just Casinos

When people hear Las Vegas, they usually think of gambling, bars, or the phrase “Sin City.” And honestly? That’s part of it and for some people, the neon nightlife is worth the trip.

I’m more of a bar person than a clubbing person (though I’m also an introvert, so I don’t go out often 😅). Still, I think Vegas has some great spots if you’re into that scene. From themed bars to live music to quiet lounges where you can actually talk.

But what really surprised me about living here is how much more there is beyond the Strip. Red Rock Canyon glows red and gold at sunset just 20 minutes away. Mount Charleston has snow in the winter and pine forests in the summer. Hoover Dam and Lake Mead are both impressive in their own ways, and Goldstrike Hot Springs is an adventurous hike that rewards you with natural pools right by the river.

And then there’s the Valley of Fire. A state park about an hour away, where the rocks literally look like they’re on fire in the sun. Ancient petroglyphs cover the cliffs, and the whole place feels like another planet. It’s hands down one of the most photogenic spots in Nevada.

There are also other hidden gems. Seven Magic Mountains with its rainbow-colored boulders in the desert, Nelson Ghost Town where photographers love to shoot among the old mining ruins, and Spring Mountain Ranch with peaceful trails and Nevada history.

So yeah, Vegas has casinos, bars, and nightlife if that’s your thing. But it’s also a base for adventure into some of the most stunning landscapes in the American West, a foodie’s playground, and a place of contrasts — neon one night, stargazing in the desert the next.

I don’t gamble, and I’m not really a club person, but I still think this city is worth experiencing at least once in your life. For me, Vegas isn’t just about sin. It’s about surprise.

## 7. 7/17/2025

Just realized something super interesting thanks to a video
A Japanese girl who speaks really fluent Spanish said that if you know Spanish, you kind of know Japanese too!? 😲
She said a lot of expressions are fonéticamente muy similares (phonetically really similar)!

Like:
	•	“más o menos/mameno” → in Japanese: “maa maa”
	•	“mucho/mucha” → in Kansai-ben: “meccha”
	•	“esooo” → Japanese: “so so so”

It blew my mind 🤯 lol

Maybe it’s not the same meaning exactly every time, but wow, it feels like there’s a weird connection! Anyone else noticed this?
I’d love to hear more examples from native speakers

To all Spanish speakers learning Japanese, and Japanese speakers learning Spanish
¿Ustedes también lo han notado? /

## 10. 7/15/2025

Corazón Coraza
Porque te tengo y no
porque te pienso
porque la noche está de ojos abiertos
porque la noche pasa y digo amor
porque has venido a recoger tu imagen

si no te miro amor
si no te miro

porque tú siempre existes dondequiera
pero existes mejor donde te quiero
porque tu boca es sangre
y tienes frío
tengo que amarte amor
tengo que amarte
aunque esta herida duela como dos
aunque te busque y no te encuentre
y aunque
la noche pase y yo te tenga
y no.
