As the 추석 time is upon us, I hope that you are having happy and pleasant Thanksgiving holiday season. But I also wanted to take some time to acknowledge, that although the holiday is meant to be a happy reunion of family members and relatives, it also can take its toll on the mental health for a variety of reasons. The occasion might appear joyous from the outside, but it is nerve-wracking and stressful to many who suffer emotionally in various situations. Women in conservative family settings are silently obligated to cook holiday food and wash dishes for many people. Relatives who have not seen each other for some time make provocative comments out of misunderstandings, resulting in arguments. Travelling with the family and spending time 24/7 suddenly grates on the nerves. Young adults who are unemployed or unmarried get disturbing criticism from elders. Spending this time at work, instead of family-time can also be painful. All these scenarios and more build up psychological tension. If you are finding this time of year difficult and are suffering with the holiday blues, I wanted to reassure you that it's common to find things hard at this time. Despite those hardships, I hope that you can focus on the present moment and let go of any worries or concerns about the past or future and find happiness and well-being during this festive time.
