Naaval Palam (நாவல் பழம்) in Tamil. I never used to buy and eat this fruit during my childhood, as my friends from the interior village would bring it to school and share it with everyone. I heard that they used to collect this fruit from riversides where the tree grew big. Also, I did not like the taste back then. Decades passed, man, now I'm just loving it! However, I no longer live near the village or have childhood friends around, so I have to buy it from local vendors. Just a little salt added, the taste remains the same and fresh. 🙂 Commonly known as Malabar plum, Java plum, black plum, jamun is an evergreen tropical tree in the flowering plant family, prized for its fruit and timber. It is native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, including Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Andaman Islands. It can reach heights of up to 30 meters (98 ft) and can live for more than 100 years. ✨
