Have you ever heard of “Little World”? It’s not actually the title of a movie, but a theme park located in Inuyama, Aichi. I really love their advertisements because they’re full of humor. For example, in the one on the left, “こおりん” (降臨, meaning “descent” or “coming down”) sounds like “こおり” (氷, ice). So they are promoting a shaved ice and ice cream event using this wordplay. In the center one, “黄身” (きみ, meaning “egg yolk”) is pronounced the same as “君” (きみ, meaning “you”). So the phrase “きみが好きだ” can mean both “I like yolk” and “I like you”, and they are using this pun to advertise a world egg festival. Finally, on the right, they are advertising a crepe event. The phrase “クレープ・バッカ” means “so many crepes”, and it also sounds like the name of a famous musician (like Bach). Ironically, I’ve never been there, but now I really want to visit!
