[This is a more advanced listening practice than previous ones. The speed is faster, the sentences can be longer, and "parenthetical expressions" are used. Please let me know if this is useful.] =============== This is the first time I've tried to make something amusing for both Japanese language learners and native speakers of Japanese involving counting. From 0-100, counting things is pretty straightforward in Japanese. But after that, when talking about hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands, things get more difficult. A student looks at the first box in my image and confidently says "Easy! Hachi-en!" [Ding] Then they get to the second box and say "I know all these: hachi, hyaku, en. Hachi-hyaku-en!" [Buzzer] Wrong. The pronunciation of 800 changes to "happyaku". Similar things happen to the pronunciation of 300 and 600, but I chose 800 specifically for the interesting kanji-reading relationship between the second to last tile with 8 million yen, and the last tile with a countless amount of yen. Can you guess it? 😃
