今日はシンガポールの国立記念日 (National Day) です。1965年8月9日マレーシアから追い出した60周年です。 その前、シンガポールはイギリスを146年間、日本を4年間、マレーシアを2年間に治めました。シンガポールはこの60年の間に益々発展して、世界的な国になりました。みんなと仲良くになって世界中に平和を促進しています。 今年はテレビでパレードを見ました。軍隊のショーケースやいろんなシンガポール人の話があって、最後は花火を打ち上げました。 I am not particularly patriotic, but watching this year's parade reminded me of the hardships that my ancestors have endured to help build the Singapore that we know today, and I hope that the coming decades would be even better.
