I made “George Washington Casserole” today. In actuality it’s a dish called “shepherds pie”, but our family always called it “George Washington Casserole” because back when my mother and her siblings were growing up.. My uncle asked what was for dinner and my grandma looked at the calendar, it was George Washington’s Birthday. So she said, “George Washington Casserole” and that name has now stuck for two generations. It’s a dish made of ground hamburger meat cooked with garlic, onion, and some spices. Then you layer it with mashed potatoes and creamed corn in a pan and bake in the oven.
