You must be very tired. ）”或“你明天还得早起，我该走了。（You will have to get up very early tomorrow. I should go now. ）”等方式向主人告别。 然而，如果一个美国人去别人家里做客，他多半是找出与自己有关的理由道别，而不涉及主人一方，比如说：“I have to get up early tomorrow. I must go now.（明天我还得早起，我得走了。 ）”或者说：“I have to go. I have to go to work tomorrow.（我该走了，明天还要上班。 ）”也可能会说：“I must say goodbye. My wife is waiting for me at home.（我得说再见了，我妻子正在家里等我呢。 ）”另外，英美人也常用这样略表感谢的告别语：“We've got to get moving. We enjoyed the evening very much. Thanks a lot.（我们得说再见了。我们今天晚上过得很愉快。多谢了。 ）”或“I think I'd better be leaving now. It's been very nice talking to you.（我想我得离开了。和你聊天非常愉快。 ）”他们认为这样说显得更得体。 中西方告别的差异（二） 按照中国人的习惯，当来访的客人将要离开时，主人通常会把客人送到家门口。客人会对主人说：“请留步”、“不要远送了”等，主人会说：“走好”、“慢走”之类的客套话。如果直接将客人的话翻译成英文是：“Stay here.”、“Don't come any further with me, please.”。如果依此向英美人道别，他们会觉得非常尴尬，因为他们根本就没有要远送的意思。这并不是因为西方人不友好，他们只是没有这样的习惯。如果对外国客人说：“Go slowly.”或“Walk slowly.”，他们则会想：“Why should I walk slowly?”（为什么我要慢走？）因为外国人把“Go slowly.”和“Walk slowly.”看成是对他们行走速度的要求，并非客套用语。按照英美人的习惯，他们常常将客人送到门口并且说：“Do come around again when you have time.”（有空一定再来。）或“Give my best regards to your parents.”（代我向你父母问好。） 此外，当接受了别人的帮助时，中国人离开前可能会这么与其告别：“对不起，浪费您这么多的时间，我该走了。”这本是一句自谦的客套话，只是表示对对方的感激与尊重。但如果对方是西方人，他们就会觉得尴尬。他们会认为，在你心里，他们的帮忙只是在做一些无用的事而已。他们会觉得很不高兴，以后也不会再帮助你了。其实在这时，你只需说“Thank you for your help. I think I should go now.
